Project Engineer, Glasgow
Consider the type of work, site access, and material you'll be excavating. For restricted access sites or indoor demolition, mini excavators (1-3 tons) are ideal. For general construction and deeper excavations, midi excavators (3-8 tons) offer a good balance of power and mobility. Larger projects with significant earth moving requirements may need standard or large excavators (8+ tons). Our team can help you select the right machine based on your specific requirements.
Operators should hold a valid CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) card for the appropriate category of excavator. For smaller machines (under 10 tons), a CPCS category A58 is required, while larger machines require category A59. Some insurance policies may accept operators with NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) qualifications. If your team lacks the necessary certifications, we can arrange for certified operators or provide training courses.
Our standard hire rates include the excavator itself with a general-purpose bucket, delivery and collection within our service areas, basic damage waiver, and operating instructions. For weekly hires and above, delivery and collection are free of charge. Fuel is provided with a full tank, and the machine should be returned with a full tank or a refueling charge will apply. Additional services such as extra attachments, extended insurance coverage, and operator provision are available at extra cost.
Ensure your site has suitable access for our delivery vehicle and the excavator. For larger machines, you may need to arrange for an area to be cleared and leveled. The ground should be stable enough to support the weight of the excavator. You should also conduct utility surveys to identify any underground services in the work area. Our delivery team will need someone on-site to accept the machine and complete the handover process, which includes a brief demonstration of controls and safety features.
In the unlikely event of a breakdown, contact our emergency support line immediately. We operate a 24/7 support service and aim to have a technician on-site within 4 hours for most locations. If the issue cannot be resolved quickly, we'll arrange for a replacement machine to be delivered as soon as possible. All our excavators undergo rigorous maintenance, but if a genuine fault occurs, you won't be charged for the downtime period.
